Alex Webster, the distinctly recognisable 6ft 4′ “go to” antique restorer for international decorative antique dealer Drew Pritchard on Discovery Channel’s hit show “Salvage Hunters”
After a hectic 8-year filming schedule on Salvage Hunters series 1 -12, Alex is now in the throws of filming “Salvage Hunters The Restorers”. Alex leads a team of artisan restorers from around the country, homing in on their individual specialist skills. Such is the high interest in restoration Alex has been able to write for publications like Country Life and ideal Home.
When it comes to wood there is nothing this man can’t fix or restore! Trained at the knee of his father in the family workshop and descending from as long line of sculptors, artists, and cabinet makers, the passion is in his DNA and the talent at his fingertips.
Between filming Alex can be found taking care of daily business at “the French polishing emporium” in his enviable “man-cave” of a workshop in beautiful north wales. Taking in work from the public, wanting to preserve the life of their treasured possessions as well as restoration work for some of the most revered Antique and art dealers throughout the country. Examples of Alex’s portfolio of bespoke commissions can be seen in establishments all over the world, from celebrity chefs in Singapore, designers in California to Mayfair, London.
Often called upon, Alex regularly advises and works on historic houses and national trust properties. He is welcomed into the private homes of aristocracy, such is his sympathetic and understanding approach to furniture and antiques.
Other business interests include being half of the creative duo behind tattydivine.co.uk. without doubt the cutest antique and Interiors shop in north wales. With his business partner tatty (Ali Hough), they draw upon the strength of Alex’s connections to source antiques and decorative items to stock their shop as well as supply production, theatre and Interior design companies.
Away from his work life, Alex is a peer amongst the youth community using his profile as a positive force. Working with disadvantaged and disillusioned youth with the welsh charity “youthshedzcymru”. With involvement and funding from local police forces and businesses the youth shedz aim to provide a safe space for youth to learn practical skills and involve them in real woodwork, electrical and engineering projects. The aim is to have a “youthshedz” space in every town in Wales and of the three already running, crime has been shown to reduce in these areas as well as improve the potential, mental health and self-esteem of those involved.
Alex coaches youth football weekly and has used his black belt in kung Fu and competitive kickboxing background to become a qualified boxing coach, coaching many welsh champions and commonwealth boxers at Dyffryn ABC, one of the most successful boxing clubs in Wales.
Alex’s YouTube tutorials are watched by thousands, hoping to emulate the restoration work themselves at home, lifting the mystique on trade secrets passed down from father to son.
