Ant anstead
Ant is a man of many talents. He is best known for his day job as a car builder, but he is also a designer, artist, world record holder and an ex-semi-professional football player. Ant is a car nut, he has been building bespoke cars since he was a kid and after two commendations for bravery, his career as one of the UK’s youngest armed police officers came to an end when he was just 25, and Ant followed his passion into the car world. Ant started building bespoke classic vehicles to individual client specifications creating true works of art and he has built an enviable reputation supplying cars and art works to museums, private collections and enthusiasts all around the world.

His introduction to TV came in 2013 when he co-hosted the Channel 4 series ‘For The Love Of Cars’ with Philip Glenister. He went on to present ‘World’s Most Expensive Cars’ for C4, BBC2’s pioneering live show ‘Building Cars Live’ alongside James May, Chinese New Year’ with Kate Humble and the Hairy Bikers and ‘New York: America’s Busiest City’ with Anita Rani and Ade Adepitan. As well as several Craft and home shows demonstrating Ant’s versatility outside the car sector. In 2017 Ant took over the reigns of the worlds most watched car restoration show ‘Wheeler Dealers’ and moved his life to the US. He has also fronted ‘Ant Anstead Master Mechanic’ which launched in 2019. Alongside this series Ant proudly wrote the last ever book to be printed by Haynes.
His recent series ‘Ant Anstead: Born Mechanic’ has followed his journey buying, restoring and selling old cars to fund a makeover of a beautiful home he is restoring in rural Bedfordshire for his parent’s retirement. It has been a huge hit on Quest and Discovery +.
Ant has lived in LA for over 8 years and his recent credits include ‘Celebrity IOU: Joyride’ and ‘Drew’s Dream Car’. Along with Jenson Button, Ant has resurrected the Radford coachbuilding brand and it is now well on the way to becoming the most preeminent coachbuilder in the world today. Their journey was followed by Discovery+ in feature length documentary ‘Radford Returns’.
Ant is often seen hosting the live stages of some of the world’s most prestigious car shows as well as after dinner speaking and writing for a number of publications and magazines. Last year he was the key note speaker at SEMA the worlds largest auto show and he has spoken to members of Congress in Washignton DC while lobying in support of automotive legislation. His first of three books is called ‘Cops and Robbers’ was about the history of police vehicles was published in 2018.
