Ant is a man of many talents. He is best known for his day job as a car builder, but he is also a designer, artist, world record holder and an ex-semi-professional football player. Ant is a car nut, he has been building bespoke cars since he was a kid and after two commendations for bravery, his career as one of the UK’s youngest armed police officers came to an end when he was just 25, and Ant followed his passion into the car world. Ant started building bespoke classic vehicles to individual client specifications creating true works of art and he has built an enviable reputation supplying cars and art works to museums, private collections and enthusiasts all around the world.

In 2017 Ant took over the reigns of the worlds most watched car restoration show ‘Wheeler Dealers’ with Mike Brewer which is now on series 16. He has also filmed a solo show ‘Ant Anstead Master Mechanic’ which launched in October 2019 on MotorTrend in both the UK and the US and saw Ant use his 12 weeks ‘holiday’ to build a special. At the same time as filming the 12 part series, Ant wrote ‘How to Build a Special’ to sit alongside the series which was published by Haynes in 2021. He is also appearing as Drew Scott’s master mechanic in ‘Drew’s Dream Car’ on Discovery+ this year, as well as starring in the forthcoming series of the hugely successful ‘Celebrity IOU: Joyride’. His other recent TV credits include ‘Worlds Most Expensive Cars’ for C4 and ‘Britain’s Greatest Invention’ for BBC2.
His introduction to TV came in 2014 when he co-hosted the Channel 4 series ‘For The Love Of Cars’ with Philip Glenister. He went on to present ‘World’s Most Expensive Cars’ for Channel 4 and he co-hosted BBC2’s pioneering live show ‘Building Cars Live’ alongside James May and Kate Humble. His other credits include ‘Chinese New Year’ with Kate Humble and the Hairy Bikers and ‘New York: America’s Busiest City’ with Anita Rani and Ade Adepitan demonstrating Ant’s versatility outside the car sector.
Ant Anstead is often seen hosting the live stages of some of the UK’s most prestigious car shows as well as after-dinner speaking and writing for a number of publications including Practical Classics magazine. His first book called ‘Cops and Robbers’ a about the history of police vehicles was published in 2018. Ant supports a number of charities and is proudly the Patron of Harrisons Fund alongside being an ambassador for the UK apprentice scheme.
